Respect to the Old School
Respect to the Old School:
If you were raised properly you were probably taught to show respect to your elders! Why? Because of their wisdom, and the level of difficulty of life they have had to go through. The same goes for the Oilfield. Respect to the Old School. All them hardworking guys had less reliable equipment, more manual labour, less people caring about them, less Industry knowledge, and the list go on forever.
Research and Development was how much the Driller was paying attention. They broke bones, bled blood, and paid big prices for what we call safety. Imagine going out to work in the Oilfield without having access to information and the Drilling teams from town to the field that we have today. Most of the time, they just dealt with the problems themselves be it the well or the equipment. They paved the way for what we call a Industry now.
With technology advancing so fast they had to deal with a broken heart of seeing what they know and love change before their eyes. Do I like where Industry is going with the technology and advancements in Equipment and downhole? Absolutely. What are some of the things that I think should never change? Hard Work, great work ethic, comradery and the brotherhood, ability to deal with difficult situations and just keep going, resiliency, resourcefulness, and just plain old grit.
Young fellas just getting their start in the greatest Industry, when the old guy talks, you listen. You might learn something about work and a lot about life. To the guys that came before me, this hand tips his hard hat too you and you will always have my respect!
